The Idea Behind Innovation
Learn more about what experiences shaped the development of the Spokeless Wheelchair!
Personal Experience
While a group of friends were playing on the neighborhood road, a bicyclist came rushing past. At that same instant, one of the players bent down to pick up a tennis ball that had fallen. A hand became caught in the bicycle’s spokes, resulting in fractures to the radius and ulna, along with a muscle tear. A cast was required for several weeks to allow proper healing.

The Period of Reflection
It took a while to process what had happened. But it sparked an idea and an unwavering drive to reduce spoke-related injuries.

The Idea
In order to prevent these incidents from happening again, an idea was proposed of removing the spokes and the hub of similar mobility items. Since wheelchairs have the same spokes and people who move around them are more prone to getting their hands, clothing, or belongings caught in the gaps, this design change could significantly reduce the risk of injury.
